Microsoft today released Windows 10 Build 14376 to Insiders in the Fast Ring with a bunch of improvements and bug fixes. Alongside the new build, Microsoft has also announced that the company will not be delivering the Messaging Everywhere feature for Windows 10 with the Anniversary Update. Instead, the company will work with the Skype team to integrate this into the new Skype UWP app. This means, starting with build 14376, Insiders will not be able to use Messaging Everywhere feature on their Windows 10 devices. In a blog post, Microsoft's Dona Sarkar stated:
We have been testing with Windows Insiders a preview of the "Messaging everywhere" feature that allows you to receive and send text messages from your Windows 10 phone directly to and from your Windows 10 PC. The experience was well-received by Insiders however we believe we can deliver an even better experience through the Skype app. Because of this, we decided not to release this feature as part of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update this summer. Starting with Build 14376 and going forward, Insiders will no longer have the ability to reply to text messages from their phone via the Messaging app on their PCs. The ability to reply to text messages on your PC using Cortana is unaffected. Going forward, we will be working with the Skype Team on delivering a great "messaging everywhere" experience on your Windows 10 devices through the Skype app. We will share more details about this experience in the months ahead.
For those wondering, Messaging Everywhere synced SMS between your Windows 10 Mobile device and Windows 10 PC, the feature also allowed users to reply to SMS from their Windows 10 PC which was pretty handy. However, according to Microsoft, the company will be able to provide a better experience via the Skype UWP app which is quite doubtful. However, it will be interesting to see if the Skype team can actually deliver a "great" messaging everywhere experience in the near-future. For now, there isn't any exact info about when the feature will be released, but Microsoft says it will share more about this "in the months ahead."
