Microsoft is not building a self-driving car

There's been a lot of hype about self-driving cars recently — Google already has a pretty solid self-driving car, and Apple is rumored to be working on its own self-driving car as well. But, what about Microsoft? Well, as it turns out, Microsoft isn't planning to build a self-driving car. However, the software giant wants to help its partners build self-driving cars with its technologies and services such as Azure, Cortana, Windows, Office 365, etc.

At the Converge conference, Microsoft's Peggy Johnson stated that the company could "certainly do the operating system" for a self-driving car. However, she states that all automakers have different needs, and Microsoft is able to help them with its technology:

"You're sitting in the car for many, many minutes a day. Can that be part of your new office, can it be your new desk, a place where you actually get work done? We believe it can. Each of them had a little something different that they wanted,"
