Microsoft is not the only company who makes augmented reality headsets. An example is the device above, the Daqri smart helmet which is a hardhat with integrated "photonic display" with a wide field of view, Intel CoreM processor, Intel Realsense depth sensor in both the front and rear, thermal camera.
Microsoft is however the only one who has a massive platform and who has built support for mixed reality into their OS.
Now Microsoft is inviting those headset makers to tap into Microsoft's platform and take advantage of hundreds of ready-made Universal Windows Apps which are already available.
Writing on the Windows Blog they say:
Today we invited our OEM, ODM, and hardware partners to build PCs, displays, accessories and mixed reality devices with the Windows Holographic platform.
For our partners, this creates new business opportunities, unlocking mixed reality experiences across devices. For developers, Windows Holographic apps can be written today with confidence that they will run on the broadest set of devices.
We are excited to be working with Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, HTC, Acer, ASUS, CyberPowerPC, Dell, Falcon Northwest, HP, iBuyPower, Lenovo, MSI and many others supporting great virtual reality experiences on Windows 10, and we are looking forward to opening up Windows Holographic to the partner ecosystem for the future.
