Back in August last year, Microsoft announced that fully featured DVR capability is coming to Xbox One in 2016. At that time, Microsoft promised that users can schedule recordings and watch TV shows and programs at their convenience. Microsoft also said that users can stream recorded TV shows to other devices, either via the Xbox app on Windows 10, or through Xbox SmartGlass for iOS and Android.
Back in March, we reported that Microsoft has started testing this feature internally. Responding to The Verge, Microsoft has now confirmed that they are no longer developing this feature for Xbox One. Microsoft spokesperson provided the following statement regarding this issue,
"After careful consideration, we've decided to put development of DVR for Over-the-Air TV on hold to focus our attention on launching new, higher fan-requested gaming experiences across Xbox One and Windows 10. We're always listening to fan feedback and we look forward to bringing more requested experiences on Xbox One, Windows 10 and Xbox Live this year."
Are you disappointed by Microsoft's decision to drop this feature after nearly 10 months since it was first announced.
