Whenever Microsoft introduces a new Surface device, a lot of us wonder whether it'll be available outside of the United States on day 1. The company today introduced a new Surface: the Surface Laptop — and thankfully, it's not available only in the United States. A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to us that the Surface Laptop will be available for pre-order today in 20 countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Italy, and more. The Intel Core i5 variant of the Surface Laptop will start shipping on June 15 in these 20 countries, but the Intel Core i7 variant will ship this summer.
"All Surface Laptop SKUs are available for pre-order starting today in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom at Microsoft Store, microsoftstore.com and at BestBuy.com where available. Surface Laptop with 7th generation Intel Core i5 processors will be generally available for purchase in these markets and Canada on June 15 at Microsoft Store, microsoftstore.com and at BestBuy.com where available, along with select third-party retailers. Surface Laptop with 7th generation Intel Core i7 processors will begin shipping this summer."
At the time of writing this article, the Surface Laptop doesn't seem to be available for pre-order in any other country apart from the United States, but that will likely change in a couple of hours time.
It is worth noting that Microsoft is only selling the Platinum variant of the Surface Laptop outside of the United States, which is a bit of a bummer. But nevertheless, Microsoft is making progress in terms of the availability of its new products and the Surface Laptop being available in 20 countries on launch day is definitely very nice to see.
