Upgrading to the full-fledged version of Windows 10 from Windows 10 S only costs $49

Microsoft's newest version of Windows 10 is Windows 10 S. Microsoft is targeting Windows 10 S towards its education customers, which means devices running Windows 10 S will be pretty cheap. In fact, the prices of devices running Windows 10 S starts at only $189. But of course, regular consumers may still want to upgrade to a full-fledged version of Windows 10 such as Windows 10 Pro. As we've previously reported, Microsoft will let users upgrade Windows 10 S to Windows 10 Pro at a price — but we didn't know how much the upgrade would cost.

Microsoft today confirmed to us that upgrading a Windows 10 S device to Windows 10 Pro will cost $49 which is actually a really good price considering the fact that upgrading from Windows 10 Home to Pro costs $99.99. A Microsoft spokesperson told us:

"Customers can easily switch to Windows 10 Pro at any time. For our EDU customers the switch is free of charge. For others, it will cost $49 or less to switch."

Interestingly enough, Microsoft says the upgrade may cost $49 or less, meaning that the upgrade might actually be cheaper than $50 and that's a pretty good news.

Whether you would want to upgrade Windows 10 S to Windows 10 Pro is up to you, because Windows 10 S can turn out to be more useful than Pro in some cases. For one, Windows 10 S is technically more secure as it doesn't let you download apps from outside of the Windows Store — allowing you to avoid installing malware on your PC. Moreover, Windows 10 S PCs take less than 5 seconds to start up, which is slightly less than Windows 10 Pro PCs — at least according to Microsoft, anyway.
