It's been more than a year since Microsoft released Windows 10. The OS saw huge growth following the initial launch — but, as expected, growth as started slowing down over the past couple of months. According to a recent report from Net Market Share, the operating system claims 24% of the desktop market, but it didn't see a huge growth over the past few months. The same applies to Steam's latest Hardware Survey report.
According to the latest Steam Hardware Survey report, 49.6% of Steam users are running Windows 10 — with 48.37% of users running the 64-bit version of the OS, while the other 1.23% are running the 32-bit of the OS. For comparison, 49.33% of Steam users were running Windows 10 last month which clearly shows the slow growth for the OS.
Other operating systems, on the other hand, didn't see any growth last month. For example, 8.69% users are now running Windows 8.1 — but 0.12% of the users moved to other operating systems in the past month. Additionally, 34.22% of users are now gaming on Windows 7 — but it gained only 0.01% users. Interestingly enough, macOS Sierra gained 0.95% of users.
Windows 10's growth will likely start increasing once more businesses start moving from Windows 7 to Windows 10. As for gamers, this will likely change as well as more gamers will probably want to move to Windows 10 because of the new gaming features in the Windows Store. As more desktop games are coming to the Windows Store, more gamers will likely be interested in switching to Windows 10.
