Gaming on Windows 10 is about to get a lot better with the upcoming Windows 10 Creators Update. Today, Microsoft is introducing a couple of new gaming features for Windows 10 with the latest preview release of Windows 10. Redmond today released Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 15019, which introduces major new features such as built-in game streaming, a new game mode, and more.
Windows 10's new Game Mode can improve framerates by up to 5%
There's a new Game Mode in Windows 10 with the latest Insider Preview releases which offers a slightly improved performance. Once enabled, the Game Mode will allocate most of your CPU and GPU resources to the game and prioritize the game to offer an improved gaming experience. The Game Mode is expected to improve framerates in games by 2-5% which is a pretty good improvement but Microsoft hopes to improve Game Mode's performance even further in the coming months.
You can now broadcast any game right from Windows 10
With the release of Windows 10 build 15019, Microsoft is also introducing a new game streaming feature in Windows 10 which will allow gamers to start streaming a game without having to download any third-party software. The new game broadcasting feature lets you stream games via Beam, which is an interactive live streaming platform Microsoft acquired last year. The new game broadcasting feature is built right into the game bar in Windows 10, which you can access by hitting Win+G.
Game broadcasting in Windows 10 is a pretty neat feature thanks to Beam's interactive platform which puts it apart from services like Twitch and YouTube Gaming. Beam actually uses a new streaming protocol called FTL which enables streaming with almost no delay (or as Microsoft says, "streams have under one second of delay" on Beam). In addition to Windows 10 PCs, the Xbox One will also be getting Game Broadcasting as part of the Windows 10 Creators Update.
Windows 10 Build 15019 also includes an improved OOBE which Microsoft completely revamped with a recent Insider Preview release. With the latest release, the new OOBE looks much better and polished but the changes aren't anything significant at the moment.
There are a couple of other new features in build 15019 — for instance, there's a new settings page for Gaming in the Settings app and Microsoft also has added a new settings page for Windows Holographic, simply called "Mixed Reality".
As usual, the latest build of Windows 10 is available in the Fast Ring of the Windows Insider program. If you aren't part of the Windows Insider program, you will be able to try these features out along with a handful of other new features when Microsoft starts rolling out the Windows 10 Creators Update in April.
