Fitbit announces new Charge 2 and Flex 2 fitness bands

Fitbit today announced Charge 2, the successor to its most popular fitness bands Charge and Charge HR . Just like their latest fitness bands, the new Fitbit Charge 2 automatically captures all-day activity, including steps, distance, heart rate, floors climbed, hourly activity, active minutes, automatic sleep tracking and calories burned. It includes Reminders to Move, a new feature that displays friendly messages and give you a small vibration that encourages you to stay active throughout the day.

Hardware wise, Charge 2 comes with a large easy-to-read tap-sensitive display which is four times larger than the original Fitbit Charge HR. And it offers long battery life up to 5 days.  Charge 2 comes with quick-release feature just like Apple Watch and Fitbit Alta that makes it easy to instantly swap between bands.

The Fitbit Charge 2 Classic Collection features textured, water-resistant fitness bands, offered in black, blue, plum, and teal.  To help you create a timeless, upscale look, you'll find premium bands made from genuine leather, available in blush pink, brown, and indigo. You can elevate your style even more with one of two Special Edition Series products, featuring a rugged and refined matte-black gunmetal tracker paired with a beveled black Classic band, and an elegant rose gold tracker with a quilted lavender Classic band. And with seven different clock faces, you can can choose how you see the time and your stats.

Software wise, Fitbit Charge 2 comes with an enhanced exercise experience and new health and fitness tools powered by PurePulse, including Cardio Fitness Level and Relax.

  • Cardio Fitness Level: Find out how fit you are with a personalized cardio fitness level and score, based on your estimated VO2 Max, that are calculated using your user profile, heart rate and exercise data.
  • Relax, guided breathing sessions: This new on-device feature offers a relaxing mindfulness experience that calms your body and mind through personalized deep-breathing sessions. The beat-to-beat changes in your heart rate determine your personalized breathing rate for each experience.

It also offers precise exercise modes that provide real-time exercise stats, including multi-sport modes for tracking specific workouts like runs, biking, weights, yoga, and interval workout mode, which guides you in alternating periods of high-intensity exercise and recovery to maximize workouts like circuit training. And SmartTrack auto exercise recognition, which automatically tracks select exercises, including walks, runs, bike rides, treadmill exercise, sports, and aerobic workouts, and records in the Fitbit app—so you get credit for your exercise activity, even if you don't track it manually.

Fitbit Flex 2 is now the first-ever swim-proof, swim-tracking wearable device from Fitbit. Fitbit Flex 2 features an an ultra-slim, minimalist design (it's 30% smaller than the original Flex). The minimalist display uses color-coded LED lights to highlight activity progress, and can even keep you connected with call and text alerts when your phone is nearby. It will be available in a seven colors—black, blush pink, gray, lavender, magenta, navy and yellow.

Just like other Fitness bands, Charge 2 and the new Flex will also be supported for connecting with Windows devices by connecting through Fitbit Windows app. Charge 2 and Flex 2 will be available next month for $150 and $100 respectively.
