Last year Intel announced Project Alloy, an all-in-one VR headset powered by Windows Holographic platform. It is a fully untethered headset and it includes a 7th gen Core CPU, graphics, batteries, and sensors just like HoloLens. It also has two Intel RealSense cameras built into it allowing you to see the outside environment.
Intel has built this as a reference platform for OEMs allowing them to create new VR/Mixed-Reality hardware powered by Windows Holographic. Now at their presentation at CES Intel CEO Brian Krzanich announced that the project is going well and that the company is planning to productize the headset with OEM partners by the last quarter of the year.
They also said they would bring applications such as HypeVR's world tour VR experience app to the Project Alloy (and presumably Windows Holographic) hardware later this year.
Windows Holographic is a component of the Windows 10 Creators update, and while we may have to wait till the end of the year to see Intel's version of such a headset we can expect to see other OEMs deliver much sooner.
