Gasbuddy app runs out of fuel on Windows Phone

gasbuddy

Present since 2011 in the Windows Store, cheap fuel search app Gasbuddy may soon be taking the off-ramp from the store. In an email to a Windows Phone user they complained of lack of use and resources and said they were no longer able to support the app.

The app last been updated in November 2015, and the company is currently debating whether they should simply remove the app or replace it with a simplified (presumably web-app) version.

The service will of course remain available at m.gasbuddy.com, but it seems the full version, which of course uses your location for convenience, soon exit the market.

They write:

Hello indmusic,
Sorry for any inconvenience. Due to lack of use and  resources, we are no longer able to support the Windows Phone app. Our product team is currently
discussing whether the app should be be removed from Windows Phone altogether or a simplified version be made available in the future.
Thanks for your understanding.
In the meantime, GasBuddy can continue to be accessed from any mobile browser by going to:
http://m.gasbuddy.com
All the best in your search for low-priced fuel.
Regards,
Charlie (CC)

The app is of course simply the latest in a long line of mobile apps which are leaving the platform and which, due to their phone-specific nature, are unlikely to return in UWP form. With Windows Phone expected to lose further market share over the next years, and Windows 10 Mobile's main selling feature being Continuum for Phones, it does raise a question if carrying  second phone running another OS makes sense to help one manage in today's app-centric world.
