Microsoft today announced that they are discontinuing Skype WiFi service from March 31st 2017. Users won't be able to download the Skype WiFi application, and even if they still have Skype WiFi installed after March 31st, the application will no longer be able to find and use hotspots. Skype team mentioned that they are retiring Skype WiFi globally so they can better focus their efforts on bringing the best possible experience through their core Skype features.
If you have Skype Credit which you purchased for Skype WiFi, you can use it for Skype's other features, such as calling mobiles and landlines in many destinations at great rates. If you don't want to use your Skype Credit, you can contact Skype Customer Service for a refund.
Microsoft already has simiar service called Microsoft Wi-Fi for Windows 10 devices alone. We have no information on whether Microsoft is killing it along with Skype WiFi. With Microsoft WiFi, you can sign in once to your Microsoft account on your Windows 10 laptop or tablet and quickly buy Wi-Fi access on the go from Windows Store when you need it. There's no separate sign-in process. Your timed Microsoft Wi-Fi plan lets you travel anywhere in the country where you bought Microsoft Wi-Fi and automatically connects your laptop or tablet to other available Microsoft Wi-Fi hotspots when you have time remaining on your plan.
