[Rumor] Project Scorpio leak possibly reveals upcoming optimizations and launch titles

Windows Central revealed quite a few details about Project Scorpio today. According to the outlet, the information was extracted from marketing materials and confirmed by their source. As with any such leak, take it with a grain of salt until Microsoft officially makes an announcement. Everything from the status of the development tools to expected games was allegedly discussed in the marketing packet.

Currently Project Scorpio's development kits don't allow it to operate at peak performance. However, that is quickly about to change in the coming weeks. Microsoft is supposedly planning a massive update in June which unlocks all 6 teraflops. This should help developers hit native 4K resolution and steady frame rates.

Developers have a variety of ways they can submit their games for Project Scorpio. Many titles like Halo 5 utilize dynamic scaling so a simple update should allow such games to look and run better on the upcoming console. Other games may include patches with 4K assets or issue specific updates which only target the device. It's up to the developers to decide which path they want to pursue.

Lastly, many first-party and third-party games will support Project Scorpio. The major games which will supposedly support increased frame rate or resolution are as follows:

  • Call of Duty 2017
  • Crackdown 3
  • FIFA 18
  • Forza Motorsport 7
  • Madden NFL 18
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Star Wars: Battlefront 2
  • State of Decay 2

These games should be showcased at E3 2017 on Project Scorpio or at least receive gameplay footage from the console. All of these games should feature 4K resolution if the leaked material is to be believed. Hopefully we'll know more about the console and supported titles in the coming weeks.
