Microsoft brings Excel co-authoring, PowerPoint Designer and more to iOS

Microsoft is rolling out a new update for Office to Insiders on iOS. With the latest update, Microsoft is introducing Designer for PowerPoint which will intelligently give you design ideas for your powerpoint slides. More importantly, the update brings co-authoring to Excel which means you will now be able to collaborate on a spreadsheet with others in real-time which is really neat. Microsoft added this feature to Excel on Windows just yesterday, and it will likely be coming to other platforms soon, too — including the Mac.

Microsoft Word has also picked up two new minor features with the latest update, but they are not anything substantial.

Here's the full changelog for the latest Office update on iOS:

  • Word: Working with tables got easier: Touch controls let you select and resize rows and columns. In addition, you can now insert endnotes into your Word documents.
  • Excel: Co-authoring is now available in Excel for iPad and iPhone: Find out who's working with you in a spreadsheet, see where they're working, and view changes automatically in seconds. We'll keep a close eye on your feedback so we can make co-authoring better before making it available more broadly. Today, co-authoring is available for Excel Online, Excel for Android, Excel Mobile, and Excel for iPad and iPhone (for Office Insiders). Stay tuned for Mac.
  • PowerPoint: Designer is now available in PowerPoint for iPad for those who have an Office 365 subscription. To get started, insert an image on a slide and try out the design ideas offered up by Designer.

If you are an Office Insider on iOS, make sure to check for updates to get the latest new features with version 1.31.1 of the apps.
