Mass Effect: Andromeda tops weekly charts in the United Kingdom but lags behind Mass Effect 3

Mass Effect: Andromeda came out almost a week ago in the United Kingdom and has already managed to secure the top position among its competitors in weekly sales. There was tremendous hype surrounding this game so the data isn't surprising. Experiences like Ghost Recon Wildlands, Horizon Zero Dawn and Lego Worlds didn't stand a chance! The game is already the third biggest launch this year in the United Kingdom after Ghost Recon Wildlands and Horizon Zero Dawn in terms of initial sales. However, Mass Effect: Andromeda only had the third best launch week for the Mass Effect franchise in terms of physical sales. Despite being incomplete, physical sales still give us a glimpse into the mindset of consumers because decreased retail sales correlate with decreased game sales across the board.

The mixed reviews and widespread performance issues turned many people away from the game who would've picked it up on launch day. There were countless videos floating around showcasing the visuals glitches as well. As funny as they might be, the content leaves a lasting mark on consumers. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 sales aren't as high as Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 sales so developers can't afford negative publicity when trying to appeal to a reduced customer base. Taking this into account, it's understandable why Mass Effect 3 beat Mass Effect: Andromeda. Previous Mass Effect games have ranked at least 90 or higher for certain platforms and review scores for Mass Effect: Andromeda were low across the board. Hopefully BioWare will quickly address the significant technical problems the game faces so consumers who decided against purchasing it will give it a shot.
