Check out our exclusive footage of Prey running on Xbox One

Prey received a demo today which takes players through the first hour of gameplay. While the majority of outlets are showcasing it on PlayStation 4, we decided that Xbox One owners should know what the title feels like on the system. While Prey features an intriguing story and challenging first-person gameplay which centers around combat and exploration, it's not technically sound on the console. The title appears to be quite blurry—running at a resolution much lower than 1080p from our early analysis—and suffers from regular stuttering despite the fact that it's locked at only 30 FPS. While it's expected that Prey's visual presentation will improve upon release, there's still a chance we may encounter some problems.

The demo also seems to feature a lot of low-resolution textures for out-of-the-way items. For example, the device you insert in your eye to upgrade your abilities features blurry assets which are quite jarring to look it. Apart from that, items like boxes appear to be very blurry when you get close to them. You can check out our entire playthrough of the demo to get a better idea of what to expect. Prey is built on CryEngine so that is troubling so some extent. For example, Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 also runs on CryEngine and we all know how disastrously that turned out on Xbox One. Hopefully this is just a product of the fact that the demo is an early build of the game. We'll just have to find out next week when the game releases. The frame rate problems are minor so there's hope!
