Microsoft yesterday announced the latest generation of Surface Book, designed from the inside out to deliver more than twice the graphics performance of the original Surface Book and up to 16 hours of battery life. While Microsoft named it as Surface Book i7 during the event, Microsoft Store is calling it "Surface Book with Performance Base".

Microsoft is adding three updated SKUs to the Surface Book lineup. The new Surface Book SKUs include the same 6th Generation Intel Core i7 processors and up to 16 GB of RAM. But it now includes an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M and 2GB GDDR5 memory that is more powerful than the original Surface Book SKUs. Upgraded GPU allows you to have more graphics power for intensive desktop-class software and PC gaming. To accommodate the new GPU, Microsoft redesigned the whole thermal system in the base. Even though the design is almost same, the new Surface Book with Performance Base weighs 3.63 lbs (1,647g), 69 grams more than the original Surface Book. But for this added weight, you gain 4 hours of additional battery life! I think consumers are going to really appreciate the improved battery life and performance in the new Surface Book SKUs.
