Back in August, Microsoft released the Windows 10 Anniversary Update with support for extensions on Microsoft Edge. At the initial launch, there were a few extensions available for Microsoft Edge. And over the coming months, Microsoft has been teaming up with companies to bring their extensions to the Edge browser. Earlier this week, Microsoft quietly announced that the company is working closely with 1Password to bring its extension to Microsoft Edge. The extension will initially be available for Windows Insiders which is pretty unfortunate, but that's because Edge is missing some required APIs at the moment. With a future build of Windows 10 Insider Preview, Microsoft will add the APIs required by 1Password to Edge which is when the extension should also be available:
However, this could mean that it might take a little while for the 1Password extension to be available for all Windows 10 Anniversary Update users. Microsoft Edge still lacks quite a lot of APIs for extensions, which is likely why the company is yet to open up submissions of Edge extensions on the Windows Store to all developers. As you may now, Microsoft doesn't allow independent developers to submit Edge extensions on the Windows Store yet which is why the browser only has a few extensions at the moment. This will hopefully change as Microsoft continues to add new APIs to Edge — but as for now, you can only use the extensions available from Microsoft's partners.
