Microsoft's OneDrive is the premier online storage solution for Windows Users and an excellent photos storage app is getting a few updates this quarter.
Spotted via ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley, Microsoft has updated its OneDrive Roadmap for the year 2017 to include a few things that users will find interesting.
First of all, the firm is adding differential syncing to the OneDrive sync engine. What this means is that when OneDrive syncs over a document on your PC or mobile device, it doesn't upload the full document again, instead it checks the file for changes and syncs just the parts that have changed instead of the whole file.
This means less data usage in the long run as well as faster sync times, and is especially useful for people who make edits to large files.
That's not the only thing that Microsoft is adding to OneDrive this year, the roadmap also makes mention of automatic tagging of photos, OCR improvements, and more whiteboard clean up. It is not entirely clear what automatic tagging refers to as the OneDrive clients have ad automatic tagging of photos for a while now, and the improved OCR features also sound like features which the Office Lens app support at the moments. It's likely that Microsoft is improving on them, but we won't know the exact details till these changes roll out later this Spring.
