Project Scorpio and PlayStation 4 Pro are part of a new trend in gaming which refreshes hardware in the middle of the generation. While PlayStation 4 Pro may have received a lukewarm reception from gamers due to low sales figures, Project Scorpio hopes to appeal to the same crowd by offering enhanced functionality and higher resolutions. However, why would any gamer want to purchase Project Scorpio or upgrade from an existing Xbox One? We discuss some of the main reasons below.
AMD FreeSync and HDMI 2.1
In a recent report from Digital Foundry, it was revealed that Project Scorpio would feature AMD's FreeSync technology and the upcoming variable refresh rate support baked into the next-generation HDMI 2.1 specification. It also dynamically adapts the display refresh rate for a power efficient and stutter-free experience. For customers, this results in low latency, smooth gaming. It also minimizes screen tearing.

Project Scorpio doesn't need a finicky PlayStation 4 Pro-like Boost Mode to offer benefits to gamers who play existing Xbox One titles which aren't patched for the console. Apart from that, the console features better anisotropic texture filtering. Lastly, it will load Xbox One games faster due to its incredible memory bandwidth. These are tangible benefits which should be noticeable to all gamers. The copious amount of power should also help stabilize frame rates.
4K 60 FPS Gameplay Capture
Producing YouTube gaming content is an incredibly popular endeavor and many gamers love to post their playthroughs and memorable moments on the platform. Xbox One only allows for 720p 30 FPS game capture and this results in muddled image quality. Luckily, Project Scorpio will support native 4K 60 FPS game captures. The PlayStation 4 Pro doesn't feature this ability and even if you buy the console you still have to get an expensive $400 accessory to record at 4K 30 FPS. The fact that Microsoft is offering a console which lets you record at that resolution and frame rate is mind-boggling. You would have to spend the price of at least another console just to buy the product which lets you do that if you went with the PlayStation 4 Pro. Purchasing Project Scorpio seems like a no-brainer for anyone interested in producing the highest quality YouTube content.
Native 4K 60 FPS Visuals
Since Microsoft revealed Project Scorpio, they've been touting the console's native 4K 60 FPS visuals. While not all games will be native 4K 60 FPS on the console, many of them are expected to run at native 4K like Star Wars: Battlefront II, Middle-earth: Shadow of War, Forza Motorsport 7, among other popular titles. This represents a significant leap in graphics which even the PlayStation 4 Pro can't delivery as it utilizes a checkboarding method for modern games. Those who don't own a 4K television will also benefit from this though. The console will utilize supersampling to deliver the best anti-aliasing and other visual techniques possible. Graphics and textures will look better than ever on a 1080p screen. You don't need to own the latest television to reap the benefits!
Virtual Reality Exclusives
According to Phil Spencer, Project Scorpio will offer high-fidelity virtual reality experiences. During the console's reveal at E3 2016, Bethesda's Todd Howard confirmed that they were bringing Fallout 4 to virtual reality and it would make an appearance on Project Scorpio. Right now virtual reality has been relegated to low-resolution gimmicks on PlayStation VR so hopefully this will trigger a shift in the landscape. We may finally get to play advanced games like Fallout 4 in virtual reality at high settings with high frame rates. From what we know, virtual reality is exclusive to Project Scorpio so if you want to experience it, you'll have to purchase the console because the standard Xbox One can't support it due to its weak hardware.
These are just some of the reasons why you should consider purchasing or upgrading to Project Scorpio. While each and every gamer is unique, we feel that the majority of you will relate to many of these points.
