Hyperkin introduces new Xbox One retro style gamepad

Hyperkin, the company behind retro-gaming gadgets like the Retron 5, Supaboy, and the Smartboy, has just introduced a new Xbox One controller for those gamers who still enjoy the old style gamepad from the days a Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo.

The controller, dubbed the Hyperkin X91, which combines the classic look of a 90s-style controller with the features of a modern controller, will be available on February 21st in white, black, and red. The controller also includes a 3.5 mm headset jack according to the listing on Amazon, and is compatible with Windows 10 as well.

Hyperkin's head of Design and Product Development Chris Gallizzi said about the idea to make the controller:

"The idea came from Rare Replay being announced. Myself and my electronic engineer wanted to use a retro controller to play these games and decided to hack an N64 controller to work on an Xbox One,"

After getting the N64 controller, to work, the idea was born for the X91. Speaking on why the controller had to keep some of its modern button layout, Gallizzi said that certain Microsoft guidelines had to be followed in order to get the controller certified. The included things like triggers, while only few types of controllers are exceptions to this, including fight pads and racing wheels.

You can preorder the Hyperkin X91 here from Amazon for only $29.99.
