Microsoft Q2 FY17 Earnings: Search Revenue up 10% year on year based on “increased revenue per search and greater search volume”

In Q1 2016 Microsoft's Bing search engine, long a joke amounts the Internet community,  finally turned profitable, and since then the company has continued to grow revenue and market share.

A year ago Bing's search revenue was up 21%, and last quarter 10% in constant currency, according to Microsoft largely due to search integration in Windows 10.

Since then Windows 10 has continued to grow to more than 400 million installs and Microsoft has also continued to see success in its white label search strategy, powering search on services as diverse as Yahoo, the Amazon Echo and Apple's Siri.

Today Microsoft reported that search advertising revenue excluding traffic acquisition costs increased 10% (up 11% in constant currency) driven by increased revenue per search and search volume, confirming growth in the popularity of the service and claims by Microsoft that their users are a more profitable target for markets than those of Google's.

The company reported a total revenue of $24.1 billion GAAP, and $26.1 billion non-GAAP, which is up by 1.2% YoY. You can find the full report here.
