Xbox One sales increase 1000% following Xbox One S launch in the UK

Microsoft released its incremental upgrade Xbox One S in early August to much fanfare, with features such as 4K Blu-ray, 4K video streaming, and HDR, all while coming in at 40% smaller than the normal Xbox One. To get the ball rolling Microsoft has offered multiple deals and bundles, in hopes of getting people interested and maybe picking up a little steam on the way. Well it appears that Redmond's strategy may be paying off, as its sales numbers are looking a lot better than this same time last week.

According to data collected by MCV, Xbox One sales in the UK have jumped to 71% for the week ending September 24, a year-on-year increase of 76%, and a whopping 989% week-on-week following the release of the Xbox One S in the UK. This is in contrast to Sony, with its release of the new Playstation 4 Slim, with the original PlayStation 4 taking only 19% of last weeks sales, with a week-on-week increase of 22%, but a 66% decrease year-on-year. Comparing the launch weeks of both consoles puts Microsoft sales up by 361% over Sony.

This is good news as PS4 has largely dominated the console market since its launch, with Xbox always lagging behind, despite having a few good months.  In a statement, Xbox UK marketing director Harvey Eagle said: "It's great to see how popular both the Xbox One S and the FIFA 17 Xbox One S consoles are with fans, not just over the last week but since the Xbox One S was released in August. 4K video streaming and 4K UHD Blu-ray have been extremely well received by gamers and critics and we believe there is no better value right now for those looking to upgrade their console."
