Just several weeks ago, Facebook's Instagram launched a new feature called "Stories". Instagram Stories was a blatant copy of Snapchat's Stories feature. And now, it seems like Facebook is working on bringing a similar feature to its Messenger service, too. The feature, which Facebook is calling "Messenger Day" is currently being tested with some users in Poland. As you may have already guessed, Messenger Day works just like Snapchat and Instagram Stories.
Firstly, the capture UI for Messenger Day is just like Snapchat's Stories feature. Secondly, the feature also includes all the usual features such as the ability to add filters, sketch, add text, emojis, and much more. Unlike Instagram and Snapchat Stories, Messenger Day offers filters/stickers for a variety of things — for instance, there are filters which let you "express" your feeling, and filters for tings like "Who's up for?" where you get to add filters for road trips, shopping, drinks, and more.
Messenger Day will show all the stories on the Messenger Home, just above all of your recent conversations — and you'll have to swipe to view all of your friends' stories. As the name for the feature suggests, all of your stories from a day (aka "My Day") will last 24 hours — just like Snapchat's Stories feature.
When asked about Messenger Day, a Facebook spokesperson stated that the company is running a "small" test where the company is allowing people to share everyday moments visually:
"We know that people come to Messenger to share everyday moments with friends and family. In Poland we are running a small test of new ways for people to share those updates visually. We have nothing more to announce at this time."
If Facebook decides to make Messenger Day available to all users, it'll probably come to Windows 10 Mobile users pretty quickly as Facebook was fairly fast bringing Instagram Stories to the OS.
Facebook's Messenger Day might be a pretty huge competitor for Snapchat as a lot of people around the world use Facebook and Messenger. In fact, Messenger has a userbase of 1 billion users, which is much more than Snapchat.
