Microsoft says buying a new PC this Holiday will save you nearly a day of waiting next year

We all have only so many days on this green earth, and Microsoft is suggesting you do not waste them waiting on your PC to boot each day.

According to their research PCs more than 3 years old take 65% longer to boot up than newer PCs, resulting on UK users wasting on average 23.5 hours a year waiting to get started.

Besides no longer wasting your few days Microsoft also has other reasons why your should splash out on a new PC this holiday season. According to their research if your PC is more than 3 years old you are likely to spend 3.5 times longer attempting to fix issues such as viruses. Microsoft notes that older, slower PCs are also a major source of frustration, with nearly two-thirds (65%) of those with a computer between five and 10 years old admitted to either hitting or shouting at it in frustration and around six per cent even saying computer issues had driven them to tears or drink.

The issue most affects those who have the fewest time to lose, with 19% of over 55's having PCs more than 5 years old, losing them two hours a month in boot-up time. Many are not even aware that modern PCs can be voice controlled (42% unaware) and that you can log in via facial recognition, with the majority thinking this is more than two years away.

The take away message is clearly that now is the time to buy a new PC, leaving more time to stop and smell the roses, before the cold embrace of death takes you away.
