Microsoft brings a touch of Project NEON to Windows 10’s Movies & TV app

Microsoft's Groove Music app got some elements of Project NEON in Windows 10 last week. Project NEON, for those unfamiliar, is a new UI upgrade for Windows 10 that will introduce a lot of neat blur and animations throughout the operating system. As expected though, Microsoft has already started adding elements of NEON to some of its apps in the Windows 10 Creators Update. Today, the company is rolling out a new update to the Movies & TV app in Windows 10 which brings a bit of blur to the titlebar of the app. The update is only available to Windows Insiders at the moment, and it is unclear whether it will make it to the public once Microsoft rolls out the Creators Update on April 11.

Project NEON on Movies & TV works and looks just like it does on the Groove Music app. The "blur" on the titlebar isn't really noticeable, and the quality seems a bit too low at the moment when compared to Windows 7's Aero Glass. In fact, you can barely notice the blur when you have the app's light theme enabled. Here are some screenshots:

The effect is still pretty nice though and it fits in nicely with the new navigation design Microsoft has been testing for a while. The new navigation design is also part of Project NEON, and Microsoft will improve the design of Movies & TV as well as Groove Music with further updates to the apps. As I noted last week, this isn't really the "final" version of this new UI — Microsoft will be making some subtantial improvements over the coming months to make it look even better. We'll also likely see Project NEON coming to other Windows 10 apps from Microsoft pretty soon, too.

If you are a Windows Insider in the Fast Ring, you can get the latest update for Movies & TV (version 10.17032.1020.0) from the Windows Store below.
