3rd party Pokemon Go app for Windows 10 now available to sideload

Pokemon_GO

We wrote earlier about a developer working on a 3rd party Pokemon Go for Windows 10 Mobile.

At the time it did not seem the app would be on the way soon, but it seems the support from the Windows Phone community has inspired the developer to step up his efforts.

ST-Apps, the developer of of One Auth, has now made the app available to sideload, with the source code from GitHub available to download.

Users still need to make an account on an iOS or Android device (this can be down via Bluestacks) and side-loading need to be enabled to install the app, as it has not been submitted to the Windows Store.

The app lacks the fancy augmented reality features of the real game, but most users seem to turn those off in any case. The app is available only for Windows 10, but other developers are free to port the game to WP8.1 using the source code.

To install the app:

  • Create a Pokemon™ Trainer Club account
  • Login on the Android/iOS app to choose your starter (you can use Bluestacks)
  • Logout from the official app
  • Enable Sideloading on your device (instructions here)
  • Download this appx file and this certificate
  • Copy them on your phone, open your file manager, launch and install the .cer file and then launch and install the .appx one
  • Launch the app on your device
  • Login

See the source code at the GitHub page here.
