Cortana expands to Australia on Android and iOS, comes to the Android lock screen

Cortana for Android and iOS has only been available for users in the United States, United Kingdom, and India in the past. Today, Microsoft is expanding Cortana for Android and iOS to Australian users as well. Redmond today started rolling out a new update to the personal assistant on Android and iOS, making it available in Australia. The update also brings Cortana to the lock screen on your Android device, which we revealed back in January.

Cortana on the lock screen essentially lets you access the Cortana feed from your lock screen — without needing to unlock it. The feature is disabled by default for users who are concerned about their privacy, but if you are fine with your personal information such as your calendar schedule being available from the lock screen you can enable it from the settings. Once enabled, you'll see a Cortana button on the lock screen that you can move around — and to access Cortana on the lock screen, you simply need to slide the Cortana button. From there, you can get things like your schedule, upcoming reminders, commute times, as well other general things you are interested in.

Cortana on Android actually works with all lock screens, which means you will still be able to use the personal assistant on your lock screens if you are using a third-party lock screen app such as Microsoft's own Next Lock screen.

Cortana's latest update is currently rolling out to users on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store — and you can grab it here for Android, and here for your iPhone.
