Microsoft today announced a couple of upcoming updates coming to Outlook on the Mac, mostly for Google users. Redmond today announced in a blog post that it's bringing support for Google Calendar and Contacts to the Outlook app on Mac. With this new feature, you will be able to use and manage your Google Calendar, as well as Google Contacts right from the Outlook app in your Mac. Google Calendar support is tightly integrated into Outlook, which means you will be able to edit things like the time for an event, as well as the location, etc. All of the changes you make in Outlook on your Mac will sync across your devices — including Gmail on your iPhone or Android, as well as the Outlook mobile apps.
Outlook's Focused Inbox now supports Gmail accounts
In addition to bringing support for Google Calendar and Contacts, Microsoft is bringing the best of Outlook to Gmail users. With an upcoming update, you will be able to use Outlook's Focused Inbox feature with your Gmail account in Outlook for Mac. Focused Inbox will allow you to focus on emails that matter the most to you, and ignore things like newsletters and other emails that might not be so important to you. Along with Focused Inbox, Microsoft is also bringing its new intelligent cards for Gmail accounts — with this, you will now be able to track things like package deliveries or travel reservations right from the Outlook app with your Gmail account.
Microsoft is testing these new features with Office Insiders in the Fast Ring starting today, and more users will be able to use at a later date once Microsoft rolls out the update to the public.
