Microsoft introduced Focused Inboxes to its Outlook app a while ago, however it was previously limited to the firm's own Outlook and Office 365 email accounts.
Now, Microsoft is rolling out an update to the Mail app later this year which will bring that functionality to the Google's own Gmail email service as well.
Going forward, Google accounts logged into the Mail and Calendar app will be able to take advantage pf the improved Outlook features – including scanning your inbox for parcel deliveries from places like Amazon and eBay, travel reservations and support for the new Focused inbox.
For those interested in the privacy implications of this move, you'll have to first agree to sync your Gmail address and contacts with Microsoft's Cloud if you don't you won't be able to use their service.
Its worth noting that Google doesn't offer a dedicated universal Gmail app for Windows (although there is a Google Gmail web app in the store), preferring instead that users use its Gmail or Inbox web apps to use with their Google accounts. With this move, it just got easier to use Google accounts on Windows.
The update is rolling out to Windows Insiders from today and will complete over the next few weeks. Not everyone will be able to access it immediately, and it'll be enabled on an account by account basis.
You can snag the update directly from the Windows Store if you're eligible.
