Microsoft will close its Skype office in Sweden

Microsoft last year announced its decision to close Skype's office in London which resulted in 220 job losses. Today, they announced that they are doing the same in Stockholm, Sweden. Skype office in Sweden employs around 120 people and all of their jobs are at risk. Skype spokesperson confirmed the news with the following message.

"Microsoft has made the difficult decision to start consultations with the trade unions to close the Skype office in Stockholm, potentially putting at risk all 120 employees."

"This proposal is consistent with our long-term aim to reduce our geographical footprint and co-locate teams to enable better collaboration, improved engineering efficiencies and increase the pace of innovation and quality. We are deeply committed to doing everything we can to help all those impacted through this process," said Skype spokesperson. Microsoft acquired Skype for $8.5 billion in cash from the investor group led by Silver Lake six years ago. I'm surprised to know that their streamlining process it still going on. Hopefully, these consolidation efforts will result in better Skype experiences for consumers.
