Microsoft announces UBS, Maersk, Hershey and Geico as new Azure customers

At Digital Difference event today, Microsoft announced some big customers wins in the enterprise space. UBS, Maersk, Hershey, Fruit of the Loom and Geico are now Azure customers. UBS, the world's largest wealth manager, is turning to Microsoft cloud technology to power its digital transformation, aiming to reduce dependency on legacy technology, find new ways to leverage digital channels, and rethink how its businesses and people work.

UBS is using Azure to power its risk-management platform, technology that requires enormous computing power, to run millions of calculations daily on demand. Because of Azure, they are speeding calculation time by 100 percent, saving 40 percent in infrastructure costs, gaining nearly infinite scale within minutes.

"Increasing the agility and scalability of our technology infrastructure is crucial to the bank's strategy," said Paul McEwen, UBS Group Head of Technology Services, who is responsible for the entire Infrastructure Platforms Strategy and Support, driving the strategic planning for the bank's intersection of business and IT needs. "With Microsoft Azure, we are building on the industry's leading cloud platform in terms of innovation, technology, security and regulatory compliance, which is very important as a Swiss financial institution."

Maersk, global transport and logistics powerhouse is joining Microsoft in a strategic move to revolutionize supply-chain management and global trade. Microsoft has been selected as the preferred cloud partner for Maersk's digital transformation journey, supporting its high-value assets such as carrier performance, equipment utilization and supplier performance. And Azure is the cloud platform of record to power Maersk's app store and help fuel business model innovations.

"Our aim is to simplify and enhance visibility in supply chains by providing a seamless end-to-end digital experience for our customers," said Ibrahim Gokcen, chief digital officer, Maersk.
